Buying American Goods

As inflation continues to rise, we Americans increasingly find ourselves looking for the best bargains at our favorite mega-retail stores in an attempt to make our paycheck stretch just a little bit further. Inevitably, we find great deals on the goods and services that we need when we look hard enough, but at what cost and, in the end when it is all said and done, is it really worth it? I mean, sure, we all want to save money on the products that we buy, and when we purchase goods that have been produced in another country like China or India, it, at first, appears that we have done just that. The reality, however, is that when we buy American-made products, we may pay a few more cents in the short term, but the long-term will hold much more for our economy, and ultimately, the price of whatever it is the we're buying. To put it simply, buying goods made in our own country holds innumerable benefits, many of which will be articulated in detail on this page.

There should be no question whatsoever after a thorough analysis of exactly what is going on here economically that we, the American people, are, in fact, hurting ourselves in the long run by buying cheap, foreign-produced goods instead of slightly more expensive products that are proudly labeled, "Made in the USA." Economically, the impact of most Americans wisely choosing to buy primarily, if not entirely, American-made products would be one of immense monetary benefit to every American and benefit nearly every aspect of the US economy. The obstacle to making this dramatic transformation occur in the Amerian people's buying habits is a huge one, but it's something that ultimately every American could be convinced to do because of the monetary benefits that the American people will eventually enjoy.

Result: More American Jobs

One area of the economy that has recently suffered immensely is the job market. Some numbers can be manipulated to say otherwise, but an overall negative trend cannot be disputed. For instance, sometimes it is said that the unemployment rate has dropped, but that number only tells half the story. People have lately been moving from better paying jobs to lower-paying, and very often service-oriented jobs. If we would buy more of our goods from companies that are proud to be located in this country, more Americans would have the opportunity to work in better paying jobs since the demand for American workers would increase.

Result: Less Slave-Labor

When goods come from other countries like China, India, or Taiwan, there's no gurantee what conditions the workers are subjected to. Some of these countries do not have laws to protect the workers and ensure that no form of slavery is involved in the manufacturing process. Buying goods from these countries is, in effect, supporting the terrible conditions under which these workers are forced to operate. American-made products are produced under better conditions where workes are not being exploited. Also, laws that protect the environment are often less strict in the countries to which American jobs are lost. In the case of a major manufacturer, moving their corporation to one of these countries is an opportunity to not have to follow as many regulations.

Get the Word Out!

There's no better time to begin such an organized movement than now. We should be willing to do whatever it takes to benfit our fellow Americans, and since the benefit is one of potential monetary value, how hard can motivating people to buy American-made products be?
