Under Construction

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.

- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

We are not Free!

Ask any young child in this country if the United States is a free country and they will, almost without exception, reply that it is. From a very young age, we are conditioned to believe that we are fortunate to live in a free country, but can we honestly and without reservation say that we are free? There's no question that most Americans believe so, and the modern media and "government" consistently perpetuate this idea on a daily basis. But in reality, freedom is rarely evident in the United States. This is not a matter of opinion nor is this conclusion based on subjective interpretation. Freedom is a concept that can be defined and then measured, and an analysis of the extent of freedom in our country today yields truly disturbing results.

Misplaced Authority

In a truly free country, authority rests with the people. Today we are told that our current form of democracy ensures that the people are the source of the government's power and therefore also the source of the government's authority. The fact remains that this current, corrupted form of democracy recognizes the government as superior to the people. We the people are able to control to a small degree how this authority is exercised over us by electing government officials, but it is that authority over the people that is a problem. Without the people firmly recognized as the authority, this means that we are inferior to a the government, and therefore, we are also inferior to the will of the government officials whom we elect. Every citizen must be regarded as equal to each other and superior to government if we are to claim to be a free country.

For some, the fact that we the people have become inferior to the government is not obvious. Consider for a moment all the things that a license is now required for in this country. A license is permission to engage in an activity that, without the license, would be considered illegal. In this way, the inherent rights which our constitution recognizes have now been turned into privileges as the nation has come to accept the rules and statutes of Corp. U.S. If we were truly free, seeking a license would be a particularly rare occurrence.
