"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
- Benjamin Franklin Preserving Life & HealthThe life and health of the people of this country is without question an important issue, but this is unfortunetly one aspect of the American experience that our current political and social system has left in shambles. As is the case for most of the nations's problems, these are caused by a departure from true American principles and the increased prominence of lesser ideals. Our situation is continually made worse as we are forced to rely on corrupt "government" agencies such as the FDA that possess interests contrary to our own. This section of the site will address why the preservation of life and health has been made more difficult by our current system, what we can do about it, and demonstrate specific examples of how our current system fails. HealthcareProviding healthcare is not the responsibility of government, and healthcare can never be considered a right. But because socialism has been increasingly implemented in this country for the past century, many Americans now view socialized healthcare as a good idea. As is addressed throughout this site, socialism is a fundamentally flawed concept that contradicts true American principles and is characterized, in part, by misplaced responsibility. But assuming that the government is responsible for the health of citizens, it would then become increasingly clear that our healthcare system is being ineffectively managed to a disastrous degree. (In reality, it is any "government" management of the system at all that is causing the problem.) A 2000 study on medical care and costs by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows the absurdity of our healthcare system. The study shows that the United States ranks #37 in the world with regard to the medical care that is delivered with an average cost per person of $3,724 (13.7% GDP). France on the other hand ranks #1 with an average cost per person of only $2,125 (9.8% GDP). Other countries are as follows: #10 Japan - $1,759 (per person) - 7.1% (of GDP) So what's it mean? Countries with socialized healthcare systems are able to provide the best medical care at a reasonable cost. In the United States, it is hammered into our heads that socialism is bad (and there should be no doubt that it is), so we have rejected the idea of socializing healthcare. We have unfortunately already accepted socialism as a part of our society in so many other ways that it appears that this disstrous system may once again become further implemented in our country. "Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint."
- Mark Twain PharmaceuticalsOur current healthcare system focuses on treating disease by administering pharmaceuticals instead of reinforcing the body's need to be properly cared for. Almost all pharmaceuticals used to treat disease are synthetically produced drugs that have a wide-range of effects on the human body. When a drug is found that does something beneficial in addition to numerous side-effects it is quickly marketed as a "cure" or "treatment" for that particular disease. This is blatantly misleading.
